Project Overview

Pine Labs, a leader in digital payment solutions, sought to showcase the power and convenience of their Pine Labs Mini—a compact payment machine that seamlessly accepts both UPI and card payments via tap or insertion. The objective was to highlight its efficiency in high-traffic environments where quick and hassle-free transactions are essential.

To bring this vision to life, our 3-member crew embarked on an ambitious journey to Prayagraj during Mahakumbh, a once-in-144-years event that attracts millions of visitors. Amidst the vibrant chaos, the film aimed to capture how the Pine Labs Mini transformed the payment experience for vendors and pilgrims alike.

Objectives

  1. Showcase Real-World Utility – Demonstrate how Pine Labs Mini enables smooth digital transactions in one of the world’s most crowded and dynamic environments.
  2. Highlight Versatility – Emphasize the device’s ability to accept both UPI and card payments with ease.
  3. Capture the Scale & Energy of Mahakumbh – Use the festival’s grand backdrop to enhance the visual storytelling.
  4. Overcome Logistical Challenges – Navigate through the massive crowds and restricted transport in local areas of Mahakumbh.

Concept & Execution

Mahakumbh spreads across 10,000 acres, providing the perfect setting to highlight the real-world application of Pine Labs Mini. The film was designed to be an immersive experience, capturing both the spiritual essence of the festival and the modern convenience of digital payments.

  1. Storytelling Approach:

    • We focused on street vendors, shopkeepers, and pilgrims using Pine Labs Mini to complete transactions effortlessly.
    • The narrative was built around the contrast between the age-old traditions of Mahakumbh and the futuristic ease of digital payments, creating a compelling storyline.
  2. Production Challenges & Execution:

    • Crowd Management: With millions of people in attendance, navigating through the festival while capturing clear, focused shots was a challenge. We kept our crew light and mobile to adapt quickly.
    • Transport Restrictions: Due to official restrictions on public and private transport within the Mahakumbh radius, we walked long distances carrying our gear, and carefully selecting shooting locations to maximize impact.
    • Equipment Handling: Filming in an uncontrolled, high-energy environment required quick setups and handheld shots to capture authentic interactions.
    • Spontaneous Storytelling: Many moments of real-life transactions were captured on the go, ensuring that the final film felt organic and engaging.

Post-Production & Visual Aesthetics

  • Editing: We carefully selected shots that showcased the seamless transaction process, interwoven with breathtaking visuals of Mahakumbh—pilgrims taking holy dips, sadhus chanting, and streets bustling with energy.
  • Sound Design: A mix of devotional chants, the upbeat traditional music, and the tap sounds of payments helped bring the film to life.
  • Color Grading: The rich, vibrant colors of the festival were enhanced to reflect the larger-than-life scale of Mahakumbh while maintaining a warm and relatable tone.
